Kudos to the Albany County Conservancy for filing this law suit and to Mike Lockhart, a biologist who worked for the US Fish & Wildlife Service for over 30 years in pursuing his field work and curiosity about the state of eagles in Wyoming at the hands of wind farms killing eagles for profit. Why is the USFWS hiding the kill data, which is public information? Read the story here.
Wind farm energy, despite any claims of being clean and green is “conflict energy” at its best. Because of its very low density it turns vast wild lands into industrial factories to harvest meager amounts of electrons, but only when the wind blows at just the right speed, which is not even 50% of the time. The amount of hydrocarbon energy invested into creating and installing wind turbines will not return a profit of extra electrons over those that were consumed in the manufacturing, delivery, and installation process. The only profit in this business are the tax credits harvested by the investors. Energy consumers always face an increase in the rates they pay for this “free, green, clean” energy. Look at Germany, the UK, California and the other localities that have invested massive amounts of money into these schemes. Their electric energy costs are the highest in the world.
Those vast Wyoming spaces littered with spinning blades not only kill eagles, they also destroy the natural acoustics by flooding the areas with low frequency sounds that impede or eliminate the ability of any species that rely on sound to communicate to their own kind, hear of immanent danger, or possibly get a good nights sleep. These low frequency sounds have been proven to be unhealthy to humans within these acoustical blast zones, and to think they will not harm other species is pure delusion.
Follow the money to see who benefits. It is not the citizen paying for these subsidized schemes as their electricity rates increase substantially. It is not the wild unspoiled spaces that vanish beneath the blight of industrial machinery. Nor do eagles or other species benefit in any manner in these enormous killing fields.
